Captain Kidd's Tale: Illustrated Nonlinear Story

Captain Kidd’s Tale:

An interactive story

Like a choose your own adventure novel, Captain Kidd’s tale is a nonlinear, interactive story created using Twine, HTML, and CSS

This project was created using Twine, a non-linear storytelling platform based in the html and css coding languages. The story is non-linear as the player has control over the direction of the story. This aims to create an immersive experience as the story unfolds.

For this story, I wrote a fictional tale based upon the pirate Captain Kidd. As a farce, I wrote the story as if pirates are actually underpaid workers forced into the labor by a tyrannical government in which they have no other options. They are paid for their bounties by their government and bounty is thus given to the powerful in exchange for the bounty. This is not dissimilar to many early forms of pirates which were actually sailors paid to find and retrieve stolen goods.

The reader/player of the story gets to choose what kind of captain Captain Kidd is. The number of lives lost and pirate level is affected by their choice and only one path leads to the treasure.

All the illustrations in the story are and drawn and edited using illustrator and photoshop. The design of the story was created using css and html.
